Admittedly, I’m a technology dork. I was determined to bring 21st century smart home technology to a 1930s home. Below, you’ll find a quick snapshot of all the smart lights/switches in the home.

Here’s a quick breakdown room-by-room of the smart home technology:
- Outside
- 5 Philips Hue Color Bulbs
- Chamberlain MyQ Garage Door Opener for Garage
- Utility/Laundry Room
- 1 Philips Hue White Bulb
- Kwikset Kevo Smart Lock
- Kitchen
- 4 Philips Hue White Bulbs in Ceiling Fan
- 2 Philips Hue Color Bulbs in can lights above sink
- 1 Lutron Caseta Wireless Switch for Kitchen Nook
- 1 Nest Protect Fire Detector
- Amazon Echo
- Dining Room
- 1 Lutron Caseta Wireless Switch for Chandelier
- Living Room
- 2 Philips Hue Color Bulbs in Lamps
- Hallway
- 1 Lutron Caseta Wireless Switch for Hallway Lights
- Nest Thermostat
- 1 Nest Protect Fire Detector
- Bedroom
- 2 Philips Hue Color Bulbs in side table lamps
- Amazon Echo Dot
The home is fully automated, the lights come on at dusk, go off at dawn. The thermostat knows if I’m home or away and adjusts the temperature accordingly. I can unlock the backdoor with an electronic key simply by touching the deadbolt. I can set light scenes for parties or for dinner. I can open/close my garage door from my phone and am aware if I left it open. It is a truly customizable experience that I love having implemented into an old home. I also have cameras installed, but in the interest of protecting the house, I’ll let you find them if you want to come look. 😉
